Job Description

The Corporate/Staff ASL Interpreter provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, transliteration and sight translation communication access either consecutively or simultaneously to appointed Deaf or Head-of-Hearing and associated clientele.

General Duties

  • Adhere to NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct 
  • Adhere to and follow all MasterWord ISO required processes in reporting, escalation and documentation 
  • Adhere to the MasterWord Communication Plan for all internal and external communications 
  • Attend scheduled division specific events when applicable 
  • Includes but not limited to: provide effective communication interpretation services to members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community both in-person and remotely in diverse industry settings
  • Support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department with internal interpretation needs for Deaf/HH staff, operational needs, and other duties for the division as assigned. 
  • Provide observational feedback on operational or service adjustments that may be needed such as the recommendation for a Certified or Qualified Deaf Interpreter
  • Demonstrate MasterWord’s core values at all times in conjunction with any MasterWord performed duty or responsibility  
  • Other duties as assigned, record and file retention, and other related general office duties.
  • Backup receptionist and administrative assistant duties as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher is preferred or five (5) years of compensated interpreting experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Broad Knowledge of Deaf culture, the ASL interpreting field, basic linguistics, and medical terminology in American Sign Langue and English 
  • Progressive experience in medical interpretation settings working within diverse organizations and multi-cultural environments
  • Must be willing to work occasional extensive hours to meet possible client needs and provide after-hours on call support on a scheduled rotating basis
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
