Our Health Care Interpreter Assessment (HCIA) is used extensively by several major hospital systems to maximize existing bilingual resources.
Legal and regulatory standards specify that interpreters should be qualified, trained and assessed on their consecutive interpreting skills, sight translation, mediation skills, specialized terminology, interpreter ethics and decision-making ability.
This assessment tests that an interpreter meets the standard to be qualified as a medical interpreter with sufficient skill and understanding of professional standards of conduct. It is not recommended that a person take this assessment without interpreter training
