Based in the Denver-metro area, Karen Tkaczyk leads MasterWord’s activity for our pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and chemical clients. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge in language services for the regulated life sciences, from research to clinical trials, via intellectual property and regulatory affairs. As Director of Translation & Localization Services, Karen’s primary focus is optimizing solutions for MasterWord’s existing chemical and life sciences customers, while growing the division and developing new offerings. She is also an adviser for the MasterWord Institute, having extensive training experience.
After earning an MChem in Chemistry with French from the University of Manchester, UK and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, UK, Karen’s early career was as a development chemist in the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland. After moving to the USA, she established and ran McMillan Translation Inc., where she was a practitioner from 2005 to 2021.
Karen is the Secretary (2017-2021) of the Board of the American Translators Association, the world’s largest association for the language services industry, and she serves on the Leadership Team for Women in Localization’s Colorado Chapter as Mentoring and Education Manager.
