Schools’ Civil Rights Obligations to English Learner Students and Limited English Proficient Parents

03/10/2015 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Join MasterWord Services and the Houston Community College Interpreter Training Program in welcoming Bruce Adelson, former Senior Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Bruce Adelson will share insights on the recently released U. S. Departments of Education and Justice Joint Guidance reminding states, school districts, and schools of their obligations under federal law to ensure that English learner students have equal access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to achieve their full academic potential.

At the event, we will also learn about the recent federal class action suit brought against Harvard and M.I.T. claiming both schools violated anti-discrimination laws by not providing closed captioning in online lectures and podcasts.
