The Strategy of Ethical Decision-Making – 10am to 1pm

Approved for 0.3 RID CEUs (3 IMIA CEUs and 3 ATA CEPs In Progress)

This advanced workshop addresses questions such as: What is the difference between a moral decision and an ethical one? What is a cultural mediation problem versus an ethical dilemma? What are the guiding principles that allow an interpreter to professionally negotiate his or her way through difficult situations? Participants will have a clear understanding of the process of ethical decision-making by learning a three-step model rather than simply following a list of rules and will demonstrate this by working through scenarios, particularly in health care, designed to hone decision making skills.

The Memory Supercharge – 2pm to 5pm

Approved 0.3 RID CEUs (ATA CEPs In Progress)

Understand how memory works and learn to use the strengths of your brain to powerfully impact recall of large amounts of information (facts, figures, ideas, concepts and names and people). This workshop covers some of the most successful memory strategies used by world memory champions.

  • Professionals like interpreters, investigators, and lawyers learn techniques for enhancing memory without losing concentration.
  • Each participant will demonstrate how to recall 20 items in any order and by number – a skill with several extremely useful applications.
