It’s Confidential! Privacy and Professional Ethics
06/18/2015 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm$35
Confidentiality is one of the most heavily weighted principles of every code of ethics for interpreters. It carries tremendous significance as it aligns with US laws specifically designed to protect individual privacy in health care, finance, and education (such as HIPAA, GLBA, and FERPA).
As with all ethical principles, confidentiality must be:
1. Understood in cultural context,
2. Weighed against competing principles in ethical dilemmas, and
3. Applied in a way that holds true to the driving force behind all ethical codes, “the interpreter will cause no harm.”
Take an interesting look at the concept of confidentiality from the legal and cultural perspectives and consider the critical role it plays in ethical decision-making in this one-hour webinar presented by human behavior expert and interpreter instructor, Ryan Foley.
This course has been approved for 1 ATA continuing education point, 0.1 BEI CEU, 0.1 RID CEU, 0.1 IMIA CEUs, 1 hour of JBCC Ethics continuing education, and 1.00 CCHI CEAP CEU.
