Interpreter Case Conference

March 23 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

MasterWord is thrilled to host its first Case Conference, the first event of its kind in our area. In an engaging and innovative format, we encourage interpreters of all experience to participate in this advanced workshop to dig deeper into the kinds of scenarios that leave us thinking, “What should I do?” or “What could I have done differently?”—the kinds of scenarios we encounter often in this dynamic profession.

Using the CATIE Center’s Reflective Practice Manual (2016) as a starting point, this conference will examine several theoretical scenarios through the lens of Robyn Dean and Robert Pollard’s Demand Control Schema, which moves past the rules-based deontological thinking (prioritizing one or more of the ethical tenets of professional interpreters without fully considering context and consequences in the situation at hand) into teleological thinking, which uses the ethical guidelines as a starting point and asks the interpreter to examine context and consequences more thoroughly.

Join us for this unique event and be a part of ground-breaking dialogue in our industry!
