The On-Site Translator will facilitate written communication by converting written material from source language into the target language, ensuring that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original clearly and accurately, and that the output text is technically, culturally, and linguistically adapted to suit the target group.

Status: Full-time
Location: Onsite Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX

General Duties

  • Adheres to professional and, where applicable, client-specific Code of Conduct (where client-specific Code of Conduct is applicable, it prevails).
  • Demonstrates accurate ability to translate written information from source language into target language using:
  • Translation Memory software – such as MemSource – to ensure consistency of translation within documents and aid efficiency.
  • Project specific glossary, specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and references to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
  • Appropriate software for work, presentation and delivery.
  • Translates a variety of material, particularly case management documentation, grievances, Standard Operating Procedures, forms, instructional materials, Vital Documents, and other project documentation, with attention to fact and nuance, so that the intent and tone of the original meaning is preserved.
  • Edits, standardizes, proofreads, revises and finalizes translated material prepared by other translators.
  • Organizes translated material and finalizes translation according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Researches specialized phraseology pertinent to the assigned projects.
  • Maintains highest levels of confidentiality and discretion regarding the content of the documents and any project-related information. 
  • Ensures reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Adheres to all applicable on-site rules and guidelines as communicated in writing or verbally by MasterWord’s site leadership.
  • Assists with other duties as may be delegated by a supervisor on site or by other MasterWord management.
  • Escalates issues and feedback to a supervisor on site or to the MasterWord management.
  • Must be willing to work occasional extensive hours to meet client project requirements and provide after-hours on call support on a scheduled rotating basis.
  • Completes administrative requirements related to the continued employment in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Preferred: at least six months of formal translation experience.
  • Have an excellent grasp of Spanish and English languages, both spoken and written, and feel confident concerning the typical communication patterns in both languages
  • Be familiar with and understand the culture and environment of the corresponding countries
  • Have the ability to communicate written texts in another language in a purposeful and target-group oriented manner
  • Demonstrate excellent team-work skills, be punctual and detail-oriented in meeting all required project deadlines and specific format and quality standards.
