Infection Control and Industrial Safety for Medical Interpreters

MasterWord is happy to bring you this important, complimentary training, designed by Linda Golley and presented by Certified Trainers and Interpreters, Whitney Gissell and Gabriela Siebach. Training in Infection Control and industrial safety is as vital for medical interpreters as it is for other members of the heath care team.

Contributors:

 Linda Golley holds a Masters of Organization Management from the University of Phoenix and a BA in Political Economy from Berkeley. Committed to improving care for inner city communities of color, disabled and Deaf clients, free clinic clients, community clinic clients, and immigrant communities, she has managed outpatient clinics at Harborview, the University of Washington Medical Center, and Community Health Centers of King County. Currently, Ms. Golley manages Interpreter Services at the University of Washington Medical Center, where she has become an experienced trainer of nurses and healthcare interpreters.

Whitney Gissell is the Manager of Compliance and Quality Assurance for MasterWord Services and a BEI Advanced level certified American Sign Language interpreter.

As the first staff American Sign Language Interpreter at the world renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center, Whitney acquired deep familiarity with the intricacies and challenges of healthcare interpreting.  Her degrees in Psychology and Neuroscience laid the foundation of knowledge upon which she built a successful career interpreting in a variety of medical specialties.    She has served on the Houston Deaf Advisory Committee advising the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, and currently holds office as President of the Greater Houston Interpreters for the Deaf.

Gabriela Siebach is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter and MasterWord Service’s Training and Assessments Division’s Manager, enhancing the quality of inter-lingual communication.

A former Cryptologic Linguist and Command Language Program Manager in the U.S. Army, Gabriela is intimately familiar with foreign language testing standards. She holds a B.A in Liberal Studies with her study focusing on foreign language and culture and has benefited from completing the highly regarded Defense Language Institute’s Foreign Language Program.
