Consider your language needs from the start of your planning process, qualified interpreters may not always be available on a short notice and some logistical coordination may be required.
When available, provide reference information, such as topic for discussion, meeting agenda, related documents or forms, presentation slides and notes, and key proper names.
Whenever possible, briefly share essential information before the meeting begins, especially information that may be relevant to the linguistic and/or logistical aspects of the encounter.
During longer sessions, let the interpreter take breaks to avoid mental fatigue. For simultaneous, ensure a team of at least two interpreters is available for each language combination.
Use our phonetic greetings and short phrases in 20 languages to briefly communicate with your client to let them know to hold on while you get language assistance.
When communicating with your Limited English Proficient (LEP) consumers and clients whether
interacting directly or through an interpreter, improve your outcomes with these Plain English Strategies.
