New U.S. Department Of Justice
Americans With Disabilities Act Guidelines
For Effective Communications With Disabled People
On January 31, 2014, the U.S. Department of Justice published new guidelines on compliance with the “Effective Communications” requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These guidelines provide important information about the 2010 federal ADA regulations and outline the legal obligations and responsibilities of state and local governments, businesses, and nonprofits to “… communicate effectively with people who have communication disabilities. The goal is to ensure that communication with people with these dis¬abilities is equally effective as communication with people without disabilities.” Source: U.S. Department of Justice January 31, 2014 Guidelines.
