A national of Argentina, Adriana Guevara, received her degree in English as a Second Language with a minor in English Literature from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza Argentina in 1998. In 2000, she received a postgraduate certificate for Medical Interpreting and Translation from Universidad del Aconcagua, Mendoza. In 2001, she came to the United States to continue her education at the University of Minnesota and completed several courses in medical interpreting, legal translation, and community services translation and interpreting. In 2002, she moved to Houston and established a translation and interpreting business. Since then, she has become a prominent figure in the translation and interpreting community in Houston and surrounding areas. Recently, she has expanded her business to include education services. She has designed and taught several courses for interpreters including a course for TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation). Despite her busy schedule, she still finds time to attend continuing education courses on translation/interpreting. Adriana has also taken several courses at the University of Arizona, including a training course for federal court interpreters in 2003 and the Training of Trainers course in 2006.
Dr. Manuel Penso
Dr. Penso is a graduate from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, located in Caracas, Venezuela. He went on to study a post graduate in general surgery (1962- 1966) and a further post graduate in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery (1966- 1968) before studying such fields as experimental cardiac transplants, aorta-coronary bypass, and coronary artery angiography. Aside from practicing as a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Penso worked as the cardiovascular surgery senior adjunct and then as the medical director of the Hospital Miguel Perez Carreno. He also taught as a professor in the anatomy department in the Faculty of Medicine at the University Central de Venezuela for over 20 years. His achievements include the first renal transplant done in Caracas, performing the first cardiomyoplasty technique in Venezuela, and implanting the first atomic pacemaker in a patient with A-V blockage in Caracas. He has operated on over 1600 patients, and has been published in over 200 scientific articles. He is a member of the International Society of Heart Transplantation, Venezuelan Society of Radiology, Venezuelan Society of Angiology, and the Venezuelan Society of Cardiology, among others.
Violeta Riccio
Born in Mexico City, and second in a family of four, Violeta was raised in a bilingual environment, living both in Mexico and the United States. She holds a B.A. as an interpreter and translator with English, French and Italian in Mexico. The five years that followed graduation, she worked as a simultaneous interpreter for different corporations’ events, as well as a translator for the medical and engineering fields. After her first child was born, Violeta went through 400 hours of Montessori training, and decided to go into a teaching career. For the next 12 years, she served as the Spanish coordinator at a private school in Sugar Land. During this time, Violeta acquired her Bilingual CDA through the CDA National Credentialing Program, and performed multiple translations on the side. Five years ago, she went back into interpreting and translating. Violeta is certified in medical terminology from Baylor College of Medicine, as well as civil litigation, through many continuing education hours. Currently, she works as an independent contract interpreter for hospitals, and as a translator of web pages for the private sector.
